Proper Home Insulating

Check your attic, attic stairway, attached garage walls and basement to make sure your home is insulated to DOE-recommended levels for your geographic area. When inspecting and buying home insulation products, look for the R-value. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power.

Clean AC & Furnace Regularly

Clean or replace AC and furnace filters once a month or as needed, and seal holes around plumbing and heating pipes.

Install a Programmable Thermostat

You can save money by using a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature by a few degrees when you are out of the house.

Replace Windows

Consider replacing single-pane windows with double-pane windows with high-performance glass. Look for low-emissivity (Low-E) or spectrally selective glass. In warmer climates, select windows with spectrally selective coatings to reduce heat gain. In colder climates, select windows that are gas filled with Low-E coatings on the glass to reduce heat loss.

Turn Off Exhaust Fans

Turn off kitchen, bath, and other exhaust fans within 20 minutes after you are done cooking or bathing; when replacing exhaust fans, consider installing high-efficiency, low-noise models.

Energy-Efficient Products

Select energy-efficient products when you buy new heating and cooling equipment. Your contractor should be able to give you energy fact sheets for different types, models, and designs to help you compare energy usage. For furnaces, look for high Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings. The national minimum is 78% AFUE, but there are ENERGY STAR® models on the market that exceed 90% AFUE.

For air conditioners, look for a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). The current minimum is 13 SEER for central air conditioners. ENERGY STAR models are 13 SEER or more. Also take advantage of the 1900.00 in energy credits this year.

Install Ceiling Fans

Install ceiling fans. The air circulation promotes cooling in the summer and heating efficiency in the winter.

Upgrade to a High-Efficiency Heating and Cooling System for Your Baltimore Home

Is it time to say goodbye to your outdated furnace or air conditioner? While we all know how great it is to relish in the comfort of an air-conditioned room in the heat of a Baltimore summer and the joy that comes with the cozy feeling of being blanketed in warmth during the cold months of winter, there’s nothing comforting about paying high energy bills. Fortunately, great strides have been made in heating and cooling technology and modern furnaces and air conditioners are more efficient than ever.

New high-efficiency heating and cooling systems are a great investment for any home or business. Immediately after upgrading your system, you can expect to see a significant drop in your energy costs - without having to sacrifice your comfort. Besides just reducing your energy costs, high-efficiency heating and cooling systems provide a number of other amazing benefits.

Federal Tax Credits and Rebates

Federal and state governments offer a number of tax credits and rebates for property owners who utilize high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment. At AJR Heating, Cooling, & Refrigeration, we can help you locate and qualify for tax credits and rebates when you upgrade your furnace or air conditioner.

Improved Comfort

Having a high level of efficiency doesn’t just mean reduced energy consumption, it means that your home will maintain a more consistent temperature, as well as take less time to reach the temperature of your choice.

Protecting the Environment

In addition to consuming less energy, and thus reducing your impact on the environment, all air conditioners made after 2010 use an improved refrigerant chemical that doesn’t contribute to ozone depletion.

Longer Lifespan and Fewer Repairs

High-efficiency heating and cooling systems experience significantly less wear and tear than their lower efficiency counterparts. This means fewer repairs and longer operating lives.
